Matt's Burning Question I

This is part I in a new series I'm starting in which I ask a question that, well, needs answering I guess, that's wat u do with questions rite? Well, here we go...

Q: IF 'THIEF' PLURAL IS 'THIEVES' AND 'KNIFE' PLURAL IS 'KNIVES' AND 'ELF' PLURAL IS 'ELVES', SHOULDN'T 'SMURF' PLURAL BE 'SMURVES'????

You would think that would be the case, logically enough, but most people cannot make the pattern stong enough in their minds, and so, not associating the word "smurf" with the rest of the English language, probably just add an "s".I congratulate you on your strong pattern-association.
